A NEW OLD WEB SITE

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Traditional Building’s Web site has a new look and an expanded array of information and services.

The Traditional Building Web site that has served readers and Web surfers faithfully for many years has a new look and is offering greatly expanded information and services. Re-launched this month, the completely revamped site is at the same address, www.traditional-building.com, but the interface has been completely redesigned.

Visitors to the Web site will still find the product and service listings that have always been available, but a new design makes it easier and more convenient to access this information. The new Web site also offers many new services and a greatly expanded selection of information.

The "Product Galleries," for example, offer a visual presentation of all of the photos and captions from the "Source Lists" in the most recent issue of the magazine. Another important addition is the availability of a greatly expanded selection of editorial material from the magazine. Many of the profiles, features, recent projects, book reviews, and opinion pages now found only in the printed magazine will be available on the Web. A reader discussion forum, “Talk,” where visitors to the Web site can discuss topics, has also been added. In addition, everything that is posted will be archived and easily searchable.

“Until now the Web site has been a vertical search engine for traditional products and services,” says Pete Miller, president of Restore Media. “While that is a big part of the magazine, it doesn’t include all of the editorial material, such as architectural firm profiles, recent projects, and book reviews. Now, for the first time, almost everything you find in the magazine will be on the Web site, and you will be able to search back issues. This will make the Web site fresher and more engaging. It is a valuable resource for the industry.”

“The redesigned Web site is much closer to the magazine, although without the hard copy’s scale and heft,” says Traditional Building's editorial director, Michael Carey. “The magazine has developed over the last few years into the prime venue for showcasing traditional architectural work, from restorations to major new construction projects. We are very happy to be making this fine work known to as wide an audience as possible. While the site has traditionally been used as a product search engine, these new features will offer our audience a far richer experience.”
