BEAN THERE, DONE THAT; THE SHOW'S BACK IN BOSTON

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference is the most comprehensive learning and networking event for professionals and enthusiasts who restore, renovate, and preserve historic buildings or who build new ones in a traditional style. More than 150 exhibitors of historically accurate products and services will fill the exhibit hall. Over 70 seminars, workshops, and tours will be taught by industry experts. Live demonstrations of traditional trades provide attendees hands-on knowledge, and the Traditional Building Design Challenge will showcase the talent of our country’s best architects and designers.

Boston, home to the show several times and its next location on March 12-14, 2009, is the ideal venue to learn first-hand how new design and development are being carefully woven into the historic fabric of a 375-year-old vibrant urban environment. A city rich in architectural history and strong in preservation and traditional design, Boston has been transformed by massive infrastructure improvements (the Big Dig and the remodeling of Logan Airport) and an enormous waterfront revitalization program.

In three days you can explore every aspect of the region’s rich design legacy--from churches, theaters, and all manner of public and commercial buildings, to the wide array of Colonial, Classical, Victorian, and Modernist styles found among the area's many historic homes. Learn how well coordinated project teams of architects, developers, planners, building owners, and artisans use both high technology and centuries-old craftsmanship to maintain, restore, and rehabilitate historic structures.

Find out how new construction, too, is reinterpreting older forms and styles. Experience how skillful designers are creating the new old house and adding artful, sympathetic additions to landmark structures. Or how new affordable housing can be created to mesh with the vernacular styles of earlier eras. Choose what's best for you from over 70 seminars, workshops, and tours within five unique tracks, most of which qualify for Health Safety Welfare credits from the American Institute of Architects.
